Junior Open Days Return at Beverly Park

(Friday 17th July 2020)

What a better way to finish the school holidays than to play in the Junior Open and Tryo competition sponsored by Peter Stubbs Accountants & Co at Beverley Park GC and play they certainly did. 77 starters was a great result on a cold and blustery Winters day and over $500 worth of prizes was up for grabs to warm things up a little.

Boasting a very strong field showcasing junior golf, 24 Clubs were represented from far field as Bega and Toukley. Beverley Park was able to tee off their own team of 22 junior members and this is a major plus for a Club with an enthusiastic junior charter.

Beverley Park has a rich history in the promotion of Junior Golf and is very proud of the success of the current programme. In close liaison with Jack Newton Junior Golf our Open Junior days are growing in numbers and stature. Junior Membership is also on the rise and it’s rewarding to nurture home grown boys and girls into the golfing world. Special thanks go to our Club Members & Corporate Partners for their ongoing support in sponsoring our monthly events and welcoming the kids in Club competition.

Special thanks to Ramsgate RSL who very proudly support the programme and are our major sponsor. A great initiative and testimony to their commitment to kids sport in the local community.

In very tough conditions with some testing pin positions Arki Valdy, BP Junior (Home Club Bonnie Doon GC) fired a 1 under par round of 69 to be the scratch winner on the day. Shashank Koirala, Bonnie Doon GC, was one shot behind with an even par round of 70. Great scores Arki and Shashank, regular visitors to BP. The boys field was strong and included local stars Jeffrey Guan +6cp and Ali Rachid +5cp. Nett winner was young Carlos Wong from Woolooware GC, a regular participant at BP, with a fine score of 39pts and runner up was Nihal Gaundar, a 4 maker from Cumberland with 37pts on countback. Well done boys.

The girls scratch winner was local Charlotte Perkins playing off a 1hcp from the Australian GC with a 3 over par 77. Charlotte and her sister Sophia are strong supporters of the BP events and are both outstanding prospects. Scratch Runner up was BP Member Abbey Bull with 23pts on countback. Nett winner on the day was Marie-Claire Domingo playing off a 45hcp, MyGolf NSW with 36pts. Runner up was Emily Leong, 11hcp, Bonnie Doon GC with 32pts. Well done girls.

The Tyro competition was a great success and the kids loved the opportunity to hit the course, some for the first time. The comp was over 6 modified holes and a couple of young stars in the making were winners on the day. Boys winner was 6yo Max Reis, a lefty with a load of talent playing out of Barden Ridge. Girls winner was Shreya Singh, 9yo, a BP Member who also displays above average ability for her age. You will hear more of these two kids for sure.

A warm welcome to all kids and parents who attended the day and we hope to see you again.

The continued success of the Beverley Park events is reliant on the volunteers on the day and a special thanks goes out to the Members who donated their time to keep the competition flowing. All parents were complimentary of the organisation of the competition.

Beverley Park GC is committed to helping kids graduate to play in all levels of golf competition and places a strong emphasis on educating juniors about scoring integrity and pace of play, both being an integral component of golfing etiquette. It is our goal to ensure these two important parts of the game are understood and practised by all competitors.

Don’t forget Friday 18 December 2020 for the 2nd year of the Bill McWilliam OAM St George Boys Junior Masters and the Sarah Kemp Junior Girls Masters. Defending champions are Ali Rachid and Jasmine Driscoll. A big fun day is planned with prizes of $3,000+ on offer. Please refer to the JNJG Calendar for details.

In response to the COVID-19 situation the Junior Open Days have been suspended until further notice.  We hope you will understand that we as a club have a duty of care to not just our juniors but all our club members, officials and staff.  Here's hoping we can ride out this pandemic quickly and get back to life as we know it.
