2015 Far South Coast Junior Pennant

Bega had a convincing win over the Mollymook Golf Club at Tura Beach on Sunday 26th April in the final of the Far South Coast Junior Pennant. Bega overcame their rivals to win 4.5 to .5. It was a very well earned victory. Bega have made it to the final of this event for three years running and were finally able to win this year.

The rain started late on Saturday afternoon at Tura Beach Country Club as both teams preparations were coming to a close. There were doubts if the final would go ahead at all when the rain was failing hard at 5:30am on Sunday. However it started easing but left some very wet fairways, after 6 or 7 holes the sun decided to come out making for a nice day.

All but one of the matches went down to the wire and the experience of the Bega players came to fruition. They were able to hold their nerve under pressure as the matches went to the very end. Bega has been growing their junior program for many years now and it is fantastic to see them have a well-earned victory.

L to R: Will Ubrihien, James Moore, Blake Dowling, Cooper Jennings, Jack Roberts, (Front) Harry Peterson.  Missing was Jack Allan.

The Mollymook team was made up of a mixture of ages; many of these players have a lot of years left to perform in the junior pennant ranks. This final was great experience for all and I am sure they will benefit greatly from it. The result may have been different if they had not played in the competition the day before as two players lost shots off their handicap in the VS Par 4Ball event. The positive this is that all of the Mollymook players were able to improve their handicaps throughout the pennant season. The team lost a combined total of 31 shots through the season in 2015. I am sure Mollymook will back in the final again for many years to come.
