2018 Junior Pennant Final

Bankstown GC and Long Reef GC faced very windy conditions at Muirfield Golf Club on Sunday 2nd December 2018 as they played the final of the 2018 Metropolitan Junior Pennant.

Gusting up to 50kmph for most of the afternoon, the players needed to allow for the wind on some of the greens as well as trying to keep it on the fairway. This favoured Long Reef in the early stages and at the turn the very close contest saw them just slightly ahead, but too close to get excited.

The tension showed on the faces of the team managers and coaches. As the afternoon came towards the last few holes, the wind eased off a little and the Bankstown players fought back to be just ahead with the last holes to play.

Bankstown had 3 matches in and Long Reef 2 with Bankstown’s No. 1 player leading 1 up teeing off the 18th hole. Both players had about 1.5m putts for par. When the Bankstown player missed his putt and was given the bogey putt, it was up to the Long Reef player to sink his putt to take the match down 19.

In front of a gallery of more than 40 spectators and with many more watching from within the Clubhouse, he just missed it left and Bankstown had won the 2018 Junior Pennant.
