The NSW Junior Boys have defended their Australian Junior Interstate Series on home soil. The boys led by captain Jake Higginbottom went through the series undefeated to win their third consecutive crown. Australian Junior Interstate Series
NSW boys and girls will be looking to get off to a good start in the defence of their titles. NSW on home soil deservedly hold the favourites tag and everyone will be looking to knock them off their perch.
Round 1 Update
The NSW boys have started the defence of their title in perfect fashion defeating South Australia by 5 matches to nil. The NSW boys have easily accounted for South Australia with the highlight of the day being Jake Higginbottom defeating Anthony Murdaca 6 & 5. All the other boys easily accounted for their South Australian opponents with only one match reaching the 17th hole. NSW take on Victoria this afternoon who also had an easy first round win.
The NSW girls have started extremely well accounting for QLD this morning 3 1/2 to 1 1/2. NSW were lead by Australian Junior Champion Cathleen Santoso and Australian number 3 Chantal Hodson who both won their matches. The girls take on Western Australia this afternoon in a match that could well decide who takes home the Burta Cheny Cup.
Round 2 Update
Unfortunately the luck did not go the way of NSW in the girls afternoon matches. NSW lost 4 matches to 1 to a good WA team. Both the number 1 and 2 matches went down the 18th with NSW unable to claim any points from those two matches. In a positive Nerida Gregory returned to form winning her match 4 and 3.
In the boys series NSW were pushed all the way against Victoria with 3 of the matches going down to the 18th. NSW scrapped away with a 4 1/2 point to 1/2 point victory, with the score not a true reflection of how close the match was. As expected NSW, WA and QLD all sit on top of the ladder after the first day with two victories. The clutch match for NSW comes tomorrow afternoon with NSW taking on the QLD team including Australian Junior Champion Cameron Smith.
Round 3 Update
The NSW boys have continued on their winning ways defeating the NT this morning by 4 matches to 1. The do or die match this afternoon comes this afternoon when NSW play QLD.
The NSW girls are back in the fight after QLD defeated WA this morning by 4 matches to 1. NSW play SA this afternoon in a must win match. Not only do NSW need to win but they need to win big!
Round 4 Update
The NSW boys have gone a long way to defending their title with a 4 - 1 victory over QLD. In a great performance from NSW Jake Higginbottom lead the way from the front with a 7 and 5 victory over Cameron Smith.
In the girls events, NSW defeated South Australia 4 1/2 to a 1/2 however with QLD defeating VIC by the same margin the Burta Cheney Cup will head north for the year.
Round 5 Update
The NSW boys have gone one step closer to securing the Junior Interstate Series with a 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 victory over WA this morning. Nathan Waters, Jarrod Freeman and Ricky Kato all secured victories with Brayden Petersen halving his match and Jake Higginbottom going down to Oliver Goss. NSW take on Tasmania this afternoon and the ACT tomorrow morning with two victories enough to secure the title.
In the girls event a 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 victory over Victoria was not enough to hold off a fast finishing WA outfit who claimed second place. For NSW Cathleen Santoso, Chantal Hodson and Esther Yoon all secured victories and Tahnia Ravnjak squaring her match.
