Newton Shield Attracts ACT Students

On Tuesday and Wednesday 3rd - 4th May 2016, three ACT school students competed in the Year 7/8/9 JNJG NSW All School Junior Championship held at Forster Golf Club and Tallwoods Golf Club.

Taylah Ellems represented Merici College, Tan Nguyen represented St John Paul II College, and Lachlan Chamberlain represented Mt. Stromlo High School.  Taylah and Tan were the recipients of the JNJG scholarship to attend the event, and had qualified by competing in the School Sport ACT Golf Championships held in March.

Although Forster Golf Club is a 66 par layout it proved to be quite a challenge for the ACT contingent.  Scoring on day two at Tallwoods Golf Club saw Lachlan finish tied 10th at 11 over par, and Tan finish 76th out of the 96 strong field in the overall stroke event.  Taylah competed against 14 girls from all over NSW in the overall stroke event and finished in a very commendable 5th place.  Taylah was rewarded with her strong comeback in the second round, finishing 2nd in the gross and nett events for her year group.

Taylah, Tan and Lachlan are some of the up and coming talent in junior golf in the ACT Monaro Region and we look forward to following their progress over the next couple of years.  Congratulations to them all.
