A.C.T Pair Claim Maiden Masters Title

(1:00pm - Sunday 31st July 2022)

Harry Whitelock (Royal Canberra) and Matilda Sullings (Federal) have won on the JNJG Tour for the first time, claiming victory at the 2022 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters.

Sullings produced the best round of her career, a five under par 70 on Sunday morning, to storm past overnight leader and local favourite Ann Jang (Toukley) and win by two shots. In the Boys Division, Whitelock hung on to defeat Enzo Moon (North Ryde), also by two shots, after a final round 74 at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

After starting the final round four shots back, A.C.T Junior Team Representative  Sullings needed a fast start if she were to have any chance of winning her first JNJG Masters Title. A birdie - birdie - birdie - par - birdie start provided the 16 year old with just that, and all of a sudden the deficit to overnight leader Jang had been erased as the two girls broke away from the rest of the field at Shelly Beach.

The rest of the day turned into a dogfight between the two impressive juniors, neither player giving an inch as par became a common score on the testing layout. Through 16 holes the girls remained all square, before Sullings took the outright lead for the first time on the 17th as Jang made a costly bogey. Not feeling any pressure at all, despite searching for her first win, Sullings sealed the title in style with a brilliant birdie on the last, winning the tournament by two shots.

Michelle Yang (Stonecutters Ridge) and Robyn Keen (Avondale) flew up the leaderboard on Sunday, also recording under par rounds to share third, whilst it was a good weekend for local girls Abbi Grimish and Brooke Botting (Shelly Beach), both recording their first ever top 10 finishes on the JNJG Tour to pick up the Nett Prizes in the Girls 14-15 Years.

Whilst Sullings was rolling the birdies in from everywhere, it was a different story in the Boys Division where par was proving to be a good score on a difficult day for scoring. 15 year old Whitelock, who slept on the overnight lead for the first time, was cruising to the title on Sunday afternoon at one under par through 10 holes. However the tricky back nine made holding that trophy difficult, as five bogies in an eight-hole stretch made things closer than it might have looked as the players made the turn.

The A.C.T Junior Team representative steadied the ship with a birdie on the 17th, the final margin being two shots. Enzo Moon (North Ryde) got the closest, also being under par for the day until a run of bogies on the back side, with Toukley local Joshua Hawkshaw (Concord) moving into third position with a final round 74.

Packed Leaderboard at Greg Chalmers Junior Masters

(6:00pm - Saturday 30th July 2022)

The 2022 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters is set to go right down to the wire after an exciting opening day at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

Local favourite Ann Jang (Toukley) and A.C.T State Team Representative Harry Whitelock (Royal Canberra) will both take two shot leads into the final round after magnificent performances in perfect conditions on the NSW Central Coast.

Jang fired a one under par 74, the only player in the entire field to break par, to lead the Girls Tournament that is dominated by Central Coast locals. Abbigail Grimish (Shelly Beach) fired a one over par 76 to be lurking just two shots behind after her best performance in a JNJG event, with a two shot gap back a trio of players at three over par. Brooke Botting (Shelly Beach) made it three Coasties in the top seven girls as she finished the opening day at five over.

Whitelock recorded an even par 71 to open up a two shot lead in the Boys Division, with just four shots separating the top eight players after the opening round. Whitelock leads from fellow JNJG Development Squad players Brodie Herring (Manly) and Max Fischer (Bonnie Doon), with Enzo Moon (North Ryde) and Vidur Subramaniam (Ryde Parramatta) rounding out the top five.

Play begins on Sunday Morning with a shotgun start at 7am, with the golf club putting on a Breakfast BBQ and bringing a Coffee Van on site to warm everyone up from 6am!
