Team North Are Victorious Yet Again

Team North have proven to be too strong for Team South after completing a wonderful comeback on the final day of the 2021 North vs South Cup. Heading into the singles matches 2 points behind, Team North found their mojo and won the singles matches by a convincing 8.5 matches to 3.5 and therefore retaining the cup. Some very impressive golf was played at the tough Highlands layout with Amy Squires (Team North), Aaron Neville-Smith (Team North), Sienna Clarke (Team South) and Angelo Bourandanis (Team South) winning their respective matches 5&4.

South Take A Slim Lead After Rd 2 Foursomes

Team South have taken control of the 2021 North vs South Cup after the Round 2 foursomes with a dominant performance in extremely cold conditions.

They were led by an impressive team effort between Broc Callaghan and Bailey Willis who made light work of their match winning 4&3 in the first match. Cooper Starkey and Jacob Lamb used their home club and Western Regional Academy friendship to win their match and put Team South in a strong position heading into the Sunday singles matches. The comeback of the tournament so far belongs to Team North members  Vidur Subramaniam and Coby Carruthers who were 3 down after 9 holes and went on to win 1 up on the 18th hole.

The 3rd and final round will be contended at Highlands Golf Club with a singles format being played. Will Team South be able to hold off Team North?

Projected Scores All Tied Up After 9 Holes in Round 1

Friday afternoon has seen the Round 1 matches complete nine holes with the projected scores all locked up at 3 matches to 3. The first matches of the 2021 North v South Cup featured athletes from the same regional academy teaming up to play the fourball format at the stunning Mt Broughton Golf Club. A special mention to the pairing of Vidur Subramaniam and Coby Carruthers (North) who shot an exceptional score of 5 under which included an eagle and four birdies. They take a 5 up lead heading into the final nine holes in Round 1.

The Round 1 matches will recommence at 7:30am, with the Round 2 foresome matches taking place after the completion of Round 1.

North v South Cup Returns for 2021

 

The 24 Regional Academy Athletes are preparing to converge on the South Highlands for the 2021 North v South Cup. Mt Broughton and Highlands Golf Clubs will serve as host for the first time in 2021.
The North v South Cup was introduced by the Regional Academies of Sport and JNJG to the calendar in 2018, and sees the best players from the Regional Academies Golf Programs rewarded with selection into either the North or South Team. The two teams then meet to compete in a Ryder Cup style event with Fourball, foursomes and singles match play. The event serves as an important Talent Identification exercise for up and coming athletes looking to progress through the JNJG Player Development Pathway.

The tournament begins this Friday afternoon at 1.00pm at Mt Broughton.
