Michelle Goes Bang at Wentworth Falls

(2:45pm - Sunday 12th December 2021)

Michelle Bang (Concord) has run away with the Girls Division of the 2021 Blue Mountains Junior Masters, firing an incredible second round seven under 67.

After starting on the 11th hole in Sunday's 2-Tee start, Bang made five birdies in her first eight holes to take charge of the tournament. The 15 Year Old from Concord kept the foot down, making another birdie as well as her second eagle of the tournament on the front nine to defeat recent NSW Junior Champion Ann Jang (Toukley) by five shots.

Amy Squires (Horizons) finished five shots back in third position with Grace Lee (Concord) rounding out the top four. Camilla Casafus (12 & 13 Years) and Camilla Kim (11 Years & Under) claimed the age division titles, Kim winning by a record 43 shots.

Overnight leader Max Fischer (Bonnie Doon) secured his first JNJG Masters title, making a birdie on the second playoff hole to defeat Coopar Nianios (Wollongong) in the Boys Division.

Fischer had a chance to win in regulation, his birdie putt sliding right by the edge. But the impressive 15 year old re-grouped, getting up and down from over the back of the green on the first playoff hole before almost driving the green on the 18th and getting up and down for birdie and the title. Nianios picked up the Boys 16 Years and Over Division, with Ian Kim (12 & 13 Years) and Harrison Preece (11 Years and Under) also claiming age divisional victories.

Wintery Start at Wenty for Blue Mountains JM

(10:00am - Saturday 11th December 2021)

One could be forgiven for thinking it was the middle of winter with how cold the conditions were but that didn’t slow almost 100 juniors down with some impressive scoring on the tight and tricky Wentworth Falls layout.

The course was in fantastic condition given almost 75mm of rain has fallen on the course in the last week, with Max Fischer (Bonnie Doon GC) leading the Boys Division after an opening round of 69 (-1). His round consisted of three birdies and two bogies giving him a three shot lead over Kade Webber (Stonecutters Ridge GC), Cooper Nianios (Wollongong GC) and Ian Kim (Ryde Parramatta GC) who fired matching rounds of 72 (+2). The lead boys group will tee off at 10:00am on Sunday morning.

The Girls Division is extremely close after four standout performances on Saturday afternoon. Concord pair Grace Lee and Michelle Bang share the lead after impressive rounds of even par 74 in the difficult conditions. Lee will be beaming with confidence heading into the final round after just this week becoming the 16 Years JNJG State Age Champion, though talented duo Amy Squires (Horizons GC) and recently crowned NSW Junior Champion Ann Jang (Toukley GC) sit only one shot back at one over par. The lead girls group will tee off at 10:09am on Sunday morning.

Harrison Preece (The Vintage) and Camilla Kim (Lynwood) lead the 11 Years and Under Division, with Leonardo Gozzo (Beverely Park GC) also impressing on the opening day to lead the Boys 11 Years and Under Nett division with a 67.

Play begins early on Sunday at 8:10am, with presentation expected around 3:00pm.

2021 Blue Mountains Junior Masters

(1:00pm - Friday 10th December 2021)

The 2021 Blue Mountains Junior Masters will take place this weekend at Wentworth Falls Country Club, with many quality golfers including recently crowned NSW Junior Girls Champion Ann Jang teeing it up. This event is the final Junior Masters of the 2021 calendar year which has been hindered by Covid-19 but with a relatively positive weather forecast we should be in for some great golfing.

The 80+ field will navigate the Par 70 (mens) and Par 74 (womens) course that is located in the heart of the picturesque Blue Mountains. The fairways are lined with native trees and mountain pines with the greens possessing sloping contours, making it a true putting test.

Play begins at 9:51am on Saturday.
