Chamberlain and Perkins Crowned Greg Chalmers Champions

(7:00pm - Sunday 2nd August 2020)

In fading light (which many would call darkness), Lachlan Chamberlain (Pymble) and Charlotte Perkins (The Australian) shone through to claim the 2020 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

Starting his final ever JNJG round with a one shot lead, Chamberlain cruised through the front nine with nine straight pars as his challengers started to falter on a beautiful wintery Sunday afternoon. Turning 18 in just two weeks, the A.C.T State Team representative wanted to sign off with a win and whilst a bogey on the 12th briefly halted the charge to victory, he responded in style.

Birdie at the 15th got the 17 year old back to level par for the day, whilst another birdie at the final hole put an exclamation mark on an impressive victory. Jeff Pullen (St Michaels) was another who impressed in the first event back after the Covid-enforced break, finishing in a clear second at even par after matching Chamberlain with a 70 on Sunday.

Arki Valdy (Bonnie Doon) proved too strong for his rivals in the 14 / 15 Years Division, winning by four shots whilst Jamie Smith (Manly) won by the same margin in the 12 / 13 Years. Charlie Peng (Avondale) claimed victory in the 11 Years and Under Division, with Eddie Armstrong (Shelly Beach) the stand out in the Nett Division finishing as the only player under his handicap for the 36 holes.

Whilst Chamberlain led from start to finish in the Boys, it was a come-from-behind win for Perkins in the girls event. After trailing by two shots overnight, and still by one as players entered the back nine, Perkins put the foot down with birdies on the 10th and 11th to take the lead, a lead that she never relinquished.

Playing partner Rachel Damee Lee (North Ryde) had an incredible weekend, the 12 year old leading for much of the tournament before finishing in outright third whilst also claiming the 12 / 13 Years Division. Central Coast local Michelle Moon (Toukley / NSW) shot up the leaderboard with three back nine birdies of her own on Sunday to finish in second spot, four shots off the pace.

Lili Kremmer (NSW) and Angela Liu (Moore Park) couldn't be separated in the Girls 14 / 15 Years Division, with a playoff unable to take place due to the fading light, whilst Pantha Tilsley (Balgowlah) made an incredible up and down on the final hole in the Girls 11 Years & Under Division to win by one shot.

Chamberlain and Lee on Top at Greg Chalmers

(8:00pm - Saturday 1st August 2020)

Two juniors at very different stages of their Junior Golfing careers will take the lead into the final round of the 2020 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

Lachlan Chamberlain (Pymble) will play his final ever JNJG Tournament Round tomorrow before turning 18 later this month, and takes a one shot lead into that round in the Boys Division after a two under par 69 on the opening day. He'll be joined in the final group by fellow 17 Year Old and local boy Keegan Phillips (Toukley), who finished the day as the only other player under par signing for a 70.

Whilst Chamberlain is about to sign off on his junior career, Girls Leader Rachel Damee Lee has barely started hers. The 12 Year Old has improved out of sight in the past 12 months, and fired an even par 75 in perfect conditions to lead by two shots. Joining Lee in the final group on Sunday will be JNJG regular Charlotte Perkins, looking to add another Junior Masters title to her impressive resume.

Shot-of-the-day belonged to Seb Sara (NSW GC), who spun his wedge back into the hole for an eagle two on the 5th!! That shot-of-the-day was matched late in the round by Brij Ingrey (The Australian), who also holed out from the fairway in fading light on the difficult 16th hole.

The Under 11 Division will resume their opening rounds at 7am, with play beginning from the 16th tee.

7:00am – Harry Deitz, Finn Whitelock, Charlie Peng
7:07am – Eddie Armstrong, Zach France, Ben Gavin
7:14am – Owen Herden, Christian Climie, Ayden Kokcek
7:21am – Sherry Zou, Stella Kaloudis, Pantha Tilsley

For all other divisions, play begins at 6:42am on Sunday, with the leaders set to tee off just after midday.

JNJG Tour Resumes at Shelly Beach

(2:30pm - Wednesday 29th July 2020)

It's been 133 days since the cancellation of the Peter O'Malley Junior Masters and after a long Covid-enforced break, the JNJG Tour Season returns on Saturday with the opening round of the Greg Chalmers Junior Masters at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

JNJG Tournaments have been sorely missed, with this first event back post Covid filling up in just 47 minutes once entries opened earlier this month. In total, more than 90 players found themselves on the waiting list, with a capacity field of 200 players taking to the course this weekend.

In a first for JNJG Tournaments, juniors will pair up with members in a unique format which sees two juniors paired with two members throughout the near six hours of tee times. The Central Coast will be well supported in their home event, with 28 juniors making the field from Central Coast DGA Clubs.

Play begins at 6:42am on Saturday Morning, with the final group set to tee off at 12:32pm.
