Ji and Lamb Take Out Major JNJG Honours for 2019
Monday 9th December 2019Nearly 100 juniors plus sponsors, supporters, golf club representatives, volunteers, parents and staff converged on Concord Golf Club for the annual Sponsors Day and Awards Dinner.
This day is an opportunity for the sponsors and supporters of Jack Newton Junior Golf to play a game with the juniors and see just how much of an impact they are having on growing the game of golf in NSW/ACT. The awards dinner following the golf is where junior golfers are recognised for their golfing achievements throughout the year.
Capturing the major awards of Junior Girl and Boy of the Year were Belinda Ji (Concord GC) and Corey Lamb (The Vintage).
Belinda’s list of achievements include; 2018 Bonville Champions Trophy, Champion at the Macarthur Junior Masters and runner up at the Victorian Girls Amateur. She was the best placed NSW Girl at the Australian Girls Amateur, and the Avondale Amateur. She finished in the top 20 at the Jack Newton International Junior Classic. She is a member of the Golf NSW High Performance Program. She captained the NSW Girls State Team and was a member of the NSW Women’s State Team. She was also the 2019 winner of the Junior Jean Derrin with an adjusted average of 71.22.
Corey had an equally impressive year. He claimed the titles at the NSW Junior Championships, the Queensland Junior Championship, JNJG State Age Championships, the NSW Country Junior Championships, the Bonville Champions Trophy, the Illawarra Junior Masters and the North Coast Junior Masters. He finished runner up at the Harvey Norman A.C.T Week of Golf. He finished 24thin the Australian Amateur, before losing to fellow New South Welshman Blake Windred in the Round of 16. He finished 26thin the Australian Boys Amateur. He was a member of the winning Golf NSW Junior Boys State Team.
The theme for the day and dinner was The Players of the PGA Tour. With a shotgun start and a four-ball ambrose, sponsors were able to join the juniors on the course for a bit of fun.
Following the golf, players returned to the clubhouse for a brief presentation of golf prizes and then to scrub up for the awards dinner. We had juniors, supporters and sponsors come from all across NSW and the ACT.
The awards dinner is hosted by a group of JNJG juniors and they did a fantastic job presenting 16 awards junior golfers and 1 special award for a junior golf volunteer.
