June Song and Josh Fuller Claim Greg Chalmers Masters

(1:30pm - Sunday 4th August 2019)

June Song (Avondale) has gone back to back and won the Girls Division of the 2019 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters with Josh Fuller (Muswellbrook) claiming his first major JNJG title, winning the Boys Division by four strokes.

Song started the final round with a two shot lead and quickly extended that with a birdie on the third. On another difficult day for the Girls where par was a good score, Song picked up her second birdie of the day on the 11th and from there cruised to the title. Two late bogies saw the defending champion finish with a two over par 77, but back to back titles was never in doubt.

Yerin Kim (Strathfield) finished in second place, four shots further back, with young gun Charlotte Perkins (The Australian) finishing in outright third and claiming the 14/15 Years Division. There was local success in the 12/13 Years Division with Ann Jang (Toukley) proving too good, with Rachel Lee (North Ryde) winning the 11 Years and Under Division.

The Boys Division had a new winner in 2019, with Josh Fuller (Muswellbrook) claiming his first JNJG Junior Masters title. Fuller and local hope Keegan Phillips (Toukley) started the final round in a share of the lead, but the steady Fuller made his move around the turn. Fuller led by three shots as the players made the turn but quikcly put the result beyond doubt with back to birdies on the 9th and 10th holes. From there, Fuller did what we had to do, cruising to victory.

Phillips finished in second place after a second round 76, with Blake Phillips (Concord) three shots further back in third. Shashank Koirala (Bonnie Doon) was the stand out youngster, finishing in fourth place and also winning the 12/13 Years Division for the first time! Noah Graham (Canden) was also a first time winner in the 11 Years Division by eight shots over Chayse Thorpe (Richmond).

The Boys 14/15 Years provided the most drama, with a three way playoff needed to separate Josh Todd (The Australian), Marco Perin (Bonnie Doon) and Andrew Brown (Concord). Brown was eliminated on the first playoff hole, with Todd eventually getting the job done on the third playoff hole.

Thank you to Shelly Beach Golf Club for hosting another great tournament and Greg Chalmers and Titleist for their continued support of this event!!

June Singing a Sweet Song at Shelly

(6:15pm - Saturday 3rd August 2019)

Defending Champion June Song (Avondale) is on track to make it back to back Greg Chalmers Junior Masters titles at Shelly Beach. Song was the only player under par on the Saturday, opening up a two shot lead over Jasmine Driscoll (NSW GC).

On a difficult day for all players, Song made four birdies to take the lead from the in-form Jasmine Driscoll. Driscoll made four birdies of her own, a double bogey on the 6th slowing the 15 Year Old down. Yerin Kim (Strathfield) and Ann Jang (Toukley) were a shot further back at two over par, whilst Charlotte Perkins (The Australian) sits alone in fifth place as the only other girl to shoot in the 70s.

Michelle Zhang (Pymble) was the stand out in the Nett Division, finishing with a five under par 70!

Keegan Phillips (Toukley) and Josh Fuller (Muswellbrook) share the lead in the Boys Division after finishing the opening day at one over par despite having very different scorecards. Fuller had just the one birdie alongside two bogies, with 15 rock-solid pars helping him into the lead. Phillips' round could not have been more different, with an eagle and three birdies making his scorecard very colourful.

Shashank Koirala (Bonnie Doon) thrilled the galary behind the 18th green when his 80m wedge shot spun back to tap-in distance, with the smiling Koirala celebrating in front of the crowd with a club drop and a DAB. He'll play in the final group on Sunday, with Blake Phillips (Concord) joining the leading trio a shot further back.

Thomas Sokolow (Manly) and Elliott MacQueen (Wyong) were the stand outs in the Nett Division, finishing at four under par.

Play begins at 7:00am on Sunday morning. All players MUST register in the clubhouse by 6:30am.

Capacity Field at Shelly Beach for Greg Chalmers Junior Masters

(12:30pm - Thursday 1st August 2019)

A full field of 128 players will take part in the 2019 Greg Chalmers Junior Masters at Shelly Beach GC this weekend. After entering the Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) Tournament Calendar in 2018, the tournament returns in 2019 at a golf course very well equipped to hosting major JNJG Events.

After successfully hosting the 2016 and 2017 NSW Junior Championships, Shelly Beach Golf Club, in conjunction with JNJG, introduced this event last year in order to maintain its connection with junior golfers from right across the state.

Growing up at Shelly Beach GC himself, tournaments namesake Greg Chalmers has had an impressive 11 professional wins to date, including two Australian Open Championships (1998, 2011), two Australian PGA Championships (2011, 2014) and a US PGA Tour win at the 2016 Barracuda Championship.

2018 Girls Champion June Song (Avondale) will look to defend her title after a one shot victory last year. Yerin Kim (Strathfield), Yeleen Son (Ryde Parramatta), Charlotte Perkins (The Australian) and Annika Boyd (Pymble) rounded out the top five 12 months ago whilst Jasmine Driscoll, who recently finished as the low placed NSW girl at the NSW Junior Championships are all in the field, looking to win the Greg Chalmers Junior Masters Trophy for the first time.

2018 Boys Champion Joshuaa Robards won’t defend his title, however many up and coming JNJG talents will compete this weekend. Eight boys in the Talent Development Squad will take part, with Brij Ingrey (Newcastle), Ali Rachid (Kogarah), Orlando Janschek (St Michaels), Cameron Jackson (Bathurst), Josh Todd (The Australian), Blake Phillips (Concord), Keegan Phillips (Toukley) and Ethan Harvey (Kiama) all making the trip to the NSW Central Coast.

In the field of 128 players are 32 Central Coast DGA players, a fantastic response from the locals who will look to take plenty of prizes home with them.

Play gets underway on Saturday with a 12.00pm shotgun start at Shelly Beach Golf Club.
