Carroll Cruises as Playoff Decides Girls at Goulburn

(3:00pm - Sunday 24th November)

Bart Carroll (Wagga Wagga) has cruised to victory in the 2019 Brett Ogle Junior Masters, blowing his rivals away with a second straight 65 to win by eight shots at Goulburn Golf Club. The Girls Division was the complete opposite as extra holes were required, with Yeleen Son (Avondale) picking up a birdie on the first playoff hole to defeat Yerin Kim (Strathfield) and Taylah Ellems (The Lakes) in a nail biting finish.

Starting the final round with a one shot lead, the tournament was almost over after just three holes, with Carroll flying out of the blocks with birdies on the opening thee holes. The 17 year old wasn't finished there, with birdies on the sixth and ninth making up for the two shots dropped on the fifth and eighth. Three more birdies in four holes to start the back nine closed the door on the chasing pack, with an eagle on the 16th for the second straight day the cherry on top as Carroll secured his maiden JNJG Junior Masters Title.

Ali Rachid (NSW GC) and Kai Komulainen (Long Reef) finished in a share for second, after incredible drama surrounded the end of the round which also resulted in a playoff for the Boys 14/15 Years Division. After making birdie on the 18th hole (his 17th hole), Rachid looked to have done enough to edge the Northern Beaches star, taking a two shot lead down the first (their last hole). But the story wasn't done there, with Komulainen applying incredible pressure, holing his pitch for eagle from 25 metres short of the green. All of a sudden the pressure was back on Rachid, who then stepped up to make a 20 foot par putt to force a playoff. That putt proved to be crucial, with Rachid making another clutch putt on the first playoff hole for a birdie and the win.

Alex Radevski (St Michael's) picked up his second Junior Masters Age Divisional title of the year, winning the 12/13 Years Division by two shots whilst Adam Ding (Bexley) also won for the second time, winning the 11 Years & Under Division by three shots.

Whilst Carroll was doing it easy in the Boys Division, the Girls Division was turning into quite the arm wrestle. Overnight leader Kim could not get the putts to drop on day two, going without a birdie as she dropped shots and the lead disappeared. That lead had shrunk to just one shot with three holes to play, but one wasn't enough as Ellems and Son picked up a birdie each over the final three holes to force a three-way playoff.

The playoff only went one hole however, with Son coming up clutch down the first extra hole making a birdie and stealing the win. Ann Jang (Toukley) flew up the leaderboard on Sunday with a round of the day even par 72 to finish in solo fourth, as well as claiming the Girls 12 & 13 Years Division. Abbey Bull (The Australian) picked up her first JNJG Junior Masters Age Divisional Title in winning the 14 & 15 Years, whilst Millie Komulainen (Long Reef) proved too strong in the Girls 11 Years & Under Division, winning by seven shots.

Hot Scoring at Goulburn on Opening Day

(6:30pm - Saturday 23rd November 2019)

Birdies and Eagles were popular scores on the opening day of the 2019 Brett Ogle Junior Masters, with Bart Carroll (Wagga Wagga) and Yerin Kim (Strathfield) taking the first round lead with a superb under par rounds.

Carroll went bogey free on the opening day, the only player in the field to do so, picking up two birdies and two eagles to finish the day at six under par. His round of 65 was good enough for a one shot lead, with the ever-impressive Jeffrey Guan (The Australian) snapping at his heels. Guan fired a 66 on Saturday, his five under par including seven birdies. A further four players broke 70 on the opening day, with Josh Robards (Newcastle) and Hamish Murray (Pennant Hills) sharing third at three under, one shot clear of Kai Komulainen (Long Reef) and defending champion Ali Rachid (NSW GC).

Yerin Kim also broke 70 on the opening day, recording four birdies and an eagle in her three under par 69. Ellems finished the day in solo second at one over par, with Yeleen Son (Avondale) and impressive 12 year old Nara Shin (Lynwood) sitting at two over par.

Junior Masters Series Concludes with Brett Ogle JM

(1:00pm - Friday 22nd November 2019)

The final event of the 2019 JNJG Junior Masters Series will take place this weekend, with the Goulburn GC set to host the 2019 Brett Ogle JM. A hot and dry start to summer will continue this weekend, with the temperature expected to reach the early 30s on both days before some much needed rain and thunderstorms finally arrive in New South Wales on Monday. A capacity field of 128 players will look to become Brett Ogle JM Champions, with Ali Rachid (NSW GC) back to defend his title.

In addition to the final trophies of the year, the final points in the season long Masters Points Race are also up for grabs. The year-long winners in each age division will earn an exemption into next month’s Greg Norman Junior Masters on the Gold Coast.

Ripudaman Singh (Castle Hill) has been the standout Junior Masters performer so far this year, but he’ll be missing the Goulburn event having already secured the Masters Points Race. The remaining 2 spots in the Boys Division look set to go down to the wire, with Kai Komulainen (Long Reef) and Ali Rachid (NSW GC) locked in a tight battle for the Boys 14/15 Years Title. The 12/13 Years Title is also close, with Max Fischer (Bonnie Doon) and Harry Atkinson (Kurri Kurri) set to do battle this weekend.

For what feels like the third year in a row, Yerin Kim (Strathfield) and Annika Boyd (Pymble) have once again dominated the Junior Masters Series Events, with Kim holding the narrowest of margin’s over Boyd heading to Goulburn. Charlotte Perkins (The Australian) and Ann Jang (Toukley) have done it a little easier in the 14/15 and 12/13 Divisions, securing qualification for the Greg Norman Junior Masters prior to the weekend.

In honour of his own tournament, Brett Ogle has once again donated some Drummond Golf Gift Vouchers for all four Boys and Girls who claim victory this weekend at the course he grew up himself playing.

Play begins on Saturday with a shot-gun start at 12:15pm, with the round one draw available at the link below. The draw for the second round will be seeded, with play to get underway via a shot-gun start at 7:15am on Sunday morning.
