Jones and Hall Hang on at NSW All Schools

(Wednesday 29th April)

Overnight leaders Corey Jones (CHS - The Entrance Campus) and Stefanie Hall (CIS - Shellharbour Anglican College) have claimed the 2015 NSW All Schools Golf Championships on a freezing day in the Blue Mountains.

After starting the day with a two shot lead, Jones backed up an opening round of two under par at Blackheath with a one under par 69 at Wentworth Falls to defeat defending champion Isaac Noh (Homebush Boys High) by a single stroke. The two Golf NSW State Team representatives were the only boys under par at the end of the tournament, with Corey Rae (CHS - Davidson High) continuing his recent good run of form to finish in outright third at even par. On a difficult two days, Joshua Thomas (CIS - Mountains Christian College) finished the two rounds at one under par to claim the Nett event.

In the Girls Division, Hall hung on to defeat the fast finishing Grace Kim (CIS - Meriden School) by a single stroke. Hall closed with a four over par 78 whilst Kim played amazing golf on day two, four birdies helping her to an even par 74 at Wentworth Falls which was almost enough to claim the title. In the Nett Division, Isabelle Mansfield (CHS - Winmalee High) and Gabrielle Beohm (CHS - Endeavour Sports High) finished the event locked at three under par, with a countback needed to determine the winner.

Round two of the Jack Newton Shield was played at Blackheath, with Ethan Chambers (Yr 8 - Knox Grammar) and Cassidy Graham (Yr 9 - Warilla High) coming from behind to take the title.

Chambers began the second round four shots behind overnight leader Luka Brucic (Yr 9 - John Paul College), but three birdies on day two saw the Knox Year 8 student finish with a three over par 72, and a three shot victory. Brucic finished in a tie for second with Harvey Remfrey (Yr 7 - Xavier College Ballina), with the pair claiming Year 7 and Year 9 Individual honours. Riley Wunderlich (Yr 7 - Maclean High) backed up his Nett score of 65 on day one with a 67 Nett on day two to win the Nett Division by five shots.

Graham also began the second round behind, but a much improved 82 on a difficult day two saw her finish with a two shot victory. Piper Prince (Yr 8 - Cardiff High) finished in second position whilst also claiming the Girls Nett Division.

At the conclusion of the Jack Newton Shield, two boys and two girls were selected to represent JNJG and the NSW All Schools on a trip to New Zealand in January 2016, with those lucky players being Ethan Chambers, Riley Wunderlich, Cassidy Graham, Piper Prince.

Hall had four birdies in her opening round of one under par 69 to lead Danni Vasquez (CCC - St Joseph's) by four shots. Vasquez also had four birdies, but threw in two double bogies to finish at three over par. One shot further back were Grace Kim (CIS - Meriden) and Amy Chu (CHS - Bossley Park High) after opening round 74s. In the boys event, Corey Jones (CHS - The Entrance Campus) was the only player under par after an opening round of 67. Brucic leads Jackson Hall (Yr 8 - Heathcote High) who finished with a 75, his round highlighted by an eagle on the 14th hole. The best nett score was Riley Wunderlich (Yr 7 - Maclean High) who finished with a five under par 65! The girls division looks set to go down to the wire with Isabelle Hawes (Yr 8 - Telopea Park High) and Piper Prince (Yr 8 - Cardiff High) tied for the lead after opening with rounds of 89 with Cassidy Graham (Yr 9 - Warilla High) still in contention only three shots behind.
