Park and Fan Claim Brett Ogle Junior Masters

Hannah Park (NSW) and Chris Fan (Avondale) have been crowned the 2015 Brett Ogle Junior Masters champions.

Opening up a commanding lead after her stunning 63 on the first day, Hannah Park cruised to the title by 10 shots after shooting a second round 67. Her opening round score of 63 was in danger when the 15 Year old jumped out of the blocks with four birdies in her opening seven holes, but the putts wouldn't drop on the back nine like they did on day one, finishing with a five under par 67 and a two round total of 14 under par. Grace Kim (Avondale) matched Park on day two with her own 67 which saw her finish second, her best result in a JNJG event.

Chloe Thornton (NSW) claimed the Girls 16 Years and Over Division, whilst Belinda Ji (Concord) outlasted Sophie Yip (Concord) and June Song to win a tight Girls 13 Years and Under Division. Juniors on the Move player Angelina Gong was a standout in the stableford division, recording an incredible 90 points over the two days.

Whilst Park streaked away with the Girls Division, it was much closer in the boys with two of the tournament favourites making their move on day two. Josh Armstrong (The Lakes) fired a round of the day 66 to post the clubhouse lead at three under par, only bettered by Chris Fan (Avondale) who holed a monster putt on his final hole (the 1st). Fan finished with a 67, and a four under par total to win by one stroke. Armstrong finished second overall, claiming the 16 Years and Over prize whilst Lachlan Jones (Dubbo) claimed the 13 Years and Under Division after a second round 74.

Harry Cleare (Nelson Bay) and Cooper Hetherington (Shelly Beach) were standout's in the Nett Division, claiming the 13 Years and Under and 14/15 Years Division with incredible scores of 11 under par and 10 under par respectively. Overnight leader Nicholas Zelesco held onto his lead in the Stableford Division, finishing with 81 points and a three shot victory.

Holy Hannah!! Park Shoots 63 at Goulburn

On any given day, a 67 by Clayton Small (Maitland) would be enough to dominate the headlines at a Jack Newton Junior Golf tournament. If not a 67 by Small, how about a 68 by 14 Year Old Oli Payne (Port Macquarie) in his best ever round? Poor Brandon Biddle even had a Hole-in-One on his way to a two under 69 yet all three boys have been upstaged by 15 Year Old girl Hannah Park who has shot the low round of the year by any golfer on the JNJG Tour, a nine under par 63 in the opening round of the Brett Ogle Junior Masters at Goulburn.

Part of the JNJG who represented Australia at the recent Singha World Junior in Thailand, Park was actually slow out of the blocks and reached the 17th hole (her 8th) at only one under par. What happened next was truly incredible. Birdies on the 17th and 18th saw her make the turn at -3, before continuing on her run with birdies at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd hole. A bogey at the short 4th didn't slow her momentum down with three more birdies on the 5th, 6th, 7th, and when the Penrith local rolled in a final birdie on the 9th, her 9th birdie in the last 11 holes, she had finished with a 63 and a nine shot lead.

The scoring was incredible right across the board, with Jarrod Callahan (Russell Vale) finishing with a Nett 61, Harry Cleare (Nelson Bay) a Nett 62, and stableford players Nicholas Zelesco (Camden), Chloe Koh (Fairbairn) and Angelina Gong (Concord) finishing with 45 and 44 points respectively.

Round Two continues tomorrow, with a shot gun start at 7:15am.

Capacity Field for the Final Junior Masters Event of the Year

Junior golfers from across NSW will converge on Goulburn this weekend for the 2015 Jack Newton Junior Golf Brett Ogle Junior Masters.  The event will take place from Saturday November 21st until Sunday November 22nd at the Goulburn Golf Club.

The Brett Ogle Junior Masters is the final event in the Junior Masters Series for 2015 and with the field at capacity it promises to be a great display of talented NSW junior golfers.

One of the favorites for the event is local Josh Armstrong. The ACT Junior Boys Team member has had a good 2015 season and looks to finish the season with a victory, but Cootamundra’s Joseph Trinder will be looking to take that title for himself. Another Goulburn local, 2015 NSW / ACT Junior Champion of Champions Lachlan Bill will be looking to add the Junior Masters Crown to his resume.

In the Girls Championship, Hannah Park (NSW GC) will be looking for her 5th Junior Masters Title of the year after a dominant season but faces some stiff opposition from NSW State Team member Amy Chu (The Australian GC). The best chance of a local victory remains with Canberra sisters Chloe and Amber Thornton, with the NSW Development Squad pair having good recent records at the course.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for golfers to watch almost 130 of the best juniors in the state.  Play gets underway from 11.15am on Saturday, with a shot gun start on Sunday at 7.15am.
